Today, the Dakota School District went on lockdown as a precautionary measure.  While students were out at recess there were gun shots heard off in the distance.  We decided to bring the students in for their safety and the district went into lockdown.  The Sheriff was called immediately and responded to the situation.  A school reach was sent out at the time of going on lockdown.  A second school reach was sent out after we received an all clear from the Sheriff Department.

The teachers, administration and staff reacted quickly and appropriately to the situation at hand.  Please discuss with your child tonight that there was no immediate threat to their safety and that we do this because of precautionary measures.

We thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping our students safe and secure.

Respectfully,

Mike Schiffman
Dakota Superintendent
